Analyzing brain-behavior relationships involves understanding how different structures and functions of the brain influence and control behavior

A neuropsychological assessment is a valuable tool that provides a comprehensive understanding of an individual's cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. By identifying strengths and weaknesses, it offers valuable insights that can enhance educational, vocational, and daily life functioning. The assessment results guide personalized interventions and support, ultimately fostering improved quality of life and well-being. In addition to evaluating cognitive deficits, forensic neuropsychologists can provide reliable information regarding symptom magnification, malingering, and other neurocognitive and psychological issues that may impact the outcome of a particular legal case.

At Dr. Chu Clinical & Forensic Neuropsychology, our psychologists conduct neuropsychological testing with adults (ages 16 – 64 years) who experience neuropsychological difficulties. Our  evidence-based, comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations include record review (full review of medical history), detailed clinical interview (and collateral interview where appropriate), direct observations, standardized testing (5-10 hours of in-office testing), feedback sessions with clients, and recommendations for vetted professionals and services.

Our evidence-based, comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations are designed to assess the individuals' emotional and behavioral functioning and cognitive functioning, including memory deficits (short-term, long-term, and working memory), problems with attention and concentration, executive functions skills (planning, problem-solving, organization, and impulse control issues), language skills (abilities in understanding, producing speech, reading, and writing.), visuospatial skills (ability to understand and remember spatial relationships between objects), and motor skills (fine and gross motor coordination and dexterity). The findings are then used to provide diagnostic clarity, guide treatment planning.

Dr. Chu's Post-Doctoral Fellowship Experiences

Dr. Ho Ying Chu completed her three-year medical psychology residency program at the Ibemed/Healthpointe Medical Clinics, where she received training in comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations. She was directly supervised by Levon Margolin Ph.D., MSCP, ABMP, Q.M.E. (qualified medical evaluator/medical legal expert), who obtained a board certification in medical psychology from the American Board of Medical Psychology (ABMP).

During Dr. Chu's residency program, she collaborated closely with qualified medical examiners, including neurosurgeons, chiropractors, orthopedic surgeons, and neurologists, to provide integrated behavioral medicine services to patients with severe neuropsychological conditions. She was trained to understand how the brain and nervous system affect behavior and cognitive skills. She performed many comprehensive cognitive evaluations to help determine the root causes of each patient’s neurological deficits and identify their strengths (cognitive, emotional, and behavioral) and challenges to foster the development of personalized interventions and support strategies.

She has completed the National Alliance of Professional Psychology (NAPPP)’s continuing education (physiology, pharmacology, neuropsychological evaluation, and medical psychology) training.
